Monday, September 2, 2013 -- Zispy -- Zispy
I took a chance, I took a shot. And you may think I’m bullet-proof, but I’m not. You took a swing, I took it hard. And down here from the ground I see who you are.
--Taylor Swift

"Zispy" reminds us of Taylor Swift, a delicate flower with a big voice. In that vein, we believe that "Zispy" would be a fine product name for a delicate product or a sensible, non-buggy software program, designed with average users in mind.

We would like to see more streamlined software programs, concentrating on websites that are beautifully simple to use, and, perhaps, your company can be that hero. You software developers seem to love creating hog-laden bells and whistle websites, Rube Goldberg contraptions, and M.C. Escher impossibilities; we users simply want the shortest path to point Z from point A.

Please help us out!

Monday, August 26, 2013 -- zVera or z Vera -- zVera
Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell, the name will carry.
– Bill Cosby

"ZVera" would make a great name for a product line or website. The root word "Vera" is a girl's name, from a Russian word meaning "faith."

On its own, "Zvera" could be a variant of "Vera."

One caveat: there is a yearly festival in Latvia called "Zvera Fest," so if you plan to use this name for a festival (especially in Europe), you might want to consult with a trademark attorney before purchasing this name. The domain names and (.lv being the country code for Latvia) are registered but (as of August 26, 2013) inactive. It is unknown if the domain owners are connected with the festival.

The festival organizers seem to be using social media (Facebook and Twitter) to promote the annual festival, but the Facebook and Twitter sites we found were outdated.

Also, "zVera" is not quite a radio-friendly term; the announcer would have to pronounce the "Z" in a distinct manner: "Z-ver-a-dot-com." In essence, this is primarily a visual term: internet, TV, and print media.

Despite the festival connection, "Zvera" and its variants do not appear on the data base, which suggests that the festival is limited to a specific region.

Reason is the natural order of truth; but imagination is the organ of meaning.
--C. S. Lewis

"ZXAL" is a very cool-looking 4-letter name that would make a good company name/acronym. We envision this as a technology or space-age domain: tech website, private space agency, gaming site, computers, etc.

However, if you're seeking a name that will be advertised extensively on the radio, then this might not be the name for your company. This is short enough that you could spell out the letters, but this is primarily a visual name.

No trademarks were found on the data base for "ZXAL" or any of its variations, such as "SXAL."

Family is not an important thing. It's everything.

"Ziats" is a pleasant name for a company or even a product line. It is also a last name, so a family business could be built on this short name.

No trademarks could be found on, and most Google searches bring up numerous personal sites. We also checked ancillary terms, such as "Ziat," "Siat," and Siats." Four dead trademarks were found on "Siat."

“Your premium brand had better be delivering something special, or it's not going to get the business.”
– Warren Buffett

"Zatav" would be a strong name for a tech company or a brand.

We like the idea of using the "T" as an all-inclusive tent encompassing the other four letters -- perhaps symbolic of a healthy company culture.

"Zatav" is an attractive strong masculine name, suggesting a website focusing on male preferences and issues. This term is also a desirable "consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant" configuration, prized by many start-ups.

No trademarks were found on Zatav or similar terms at

Sunday, August 18, 2013 -- zytyz -- zyTyz
The things that stand out are often the oddities.
-- Pierre Salinger

Admittedly, "zyTyz" is a somewhat tricky name, a mouthful that would definitely NOT pass the radio test. It is pronounceable ("y" acting in place of "i"), but this term is not for a strictly aural medium.

Moreover, except for a few user names, it has no generic root meaning that we can find or discern.

What we do like (and believe that a forward-thinking company might like) is its visual symmetry, increasingly important in a visual culture.

This palindrome with the letter "T" in the middle offers many great opportunities to develop a logo in a most creative and unique manner; we like the idea of the letter "T" acting as a tent, an all-inclusive symbol for a company's core values.

Also, if you want a 5-letter palindrome "consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant" domain with "T" as the middle letter, good luck finding available domains. In this case, "y" acts as a vowel (an "i" sound). For "Z" fans, there are only 6 and all are already owned. For any CVCVC domain with the desirable "T" as the middle letter, there are only 126 palindrome possibilities (including "y" as both a consonant and vowel).

We are the first owners of this domain, which means it has never been used for any nefarious purposes, so your company would be using a clean term--no nasty issues regarding former usage. This pure domain is ready for the search-engine love that it deserves.

We found no trademarks on "zytyz," "Zyt yz," "Zyt," "sytyz," or "sytys" on There are two live marks on "Syt" (disclosed only because "Z" and "S" are close to each other on the qwerty keyboard).

Thursday, August 15, 2013 -- Zanak -- Zanak
“For a truly effective social campaign, a brand needs to embrace the first principles of marketing, which involves brand definition and consistent storytelling.”
--Simon Mainwaring

“Zanak” suggests to us a character or a video game. It would also be a good company or brand name for just about any business or brand.

In reality, “Zanak” is an open-ended name, one on which you can define your brand and build your own company narrative.

Keep in mind that brands like Verizon, Xerox, Kleenex, and TASER (Acronym for “Thomas A. Smith's Electric Rifle”) have been built on non-words, coined by their creators to impart meaning about a brand.

“Zanak” also appears to be a last name.

“Zanak” is a “consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant” configuration, a very desirable pattern for start-up companies. This word pattern is nearly impossible to find, except on the domain aftermarket.

The term “Zanak” was not found on the or data bases.

Tuesday, August 13, 2013 -- ZideKick or Zide Kick -- Zidekick or Zide Kick
... I always love the sidekicks. I want to do a leading-lady role in a film -- absolutely. But I find that a lot of times I get attracted to the sidekick role. They stand out a little more because they're quirkier, they're funnier, they're crazier.
-- Malin Akerman

"Zidekick" or "Zide Kick" is a "kicky" and catchy name that plays on "Sidekick," a friend or colleague who is close, but somehow subordinate, to another person.

Famous sidekick relationships include Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (illustrated in the logo); Batman and Robin; The Lone Ranger and Tonto; Thelma and Louise -- well, you get the idea.

We see "Zidekick" as the social media site that could kick (get it?) a certain site that begins with "Face" and ends in "book" in its nosy derriere (that's French, which sounds ever so much better than "butt").

"Zidekick" could represent a brand for any product or service that offers a flirty cachet. Could it be a company name? It depends on one's corporate culture. If your company tends to be footloose and devil-may-care, then yes. But if you are IBM-esque (translation: "staid"), then probably not.

The exact terms "Zidekick" and "Zide Kick" do not appear in the or data bases.

However, be aware that there are 339 trademarks on "Sidekick" -- many of them exact matches -- and over 6,000 on variations of "side kick," but no exact matches. Therefore, be careful to research "Sidekick" more thoroughly to avoid a typo confusion with a company offering similar products or services.

Sunday, August 11, 2013 -- Zalat -- Zalat

The real names of our people were destroyed during slavery. The last name of my forefathers was taken from them when they were brought to America and made slaves, and then the name of the slave master was given, which we refuse, we reject that name today and refuse it. I never acknowledge it whatsoever.

-- Malcolm X

"Zalat" is just one of those strong names that seems to be perfect for a up-and-coming tech company. It is a short, appealing name that consists of the highly desirable consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant (CVCVC) configuration; these types of names are difficult to find and getting more difficult.

"Zalat" also seems to be a last name, albeit unusual.

No trademark on "Zalat" was found on the and data bases. A quick check on Google does not turn up use in commerce, but with all short names like this, it is always good to conduct a more thorough search before purchasing.

I don't consider myself bald, I'm just taller than my hair.

"ZestSet" or "Zest Set" suggests a busy and popular hair salon or a chain of hair salons, offering the perfect branding for the discerning business owner.

Also, "Zest Set" rhymes with "Jet Set," suggesting a high-end, yet flirty, salon.

Of course, the buyer is not limited to this type of business; the logo reflects an open-ended theme.

No trademarks were found on the or data bases for the terms ZestSet or Zest Set. Moreover, a quick search on Google did not reveal any hair salons doing business under either of these terms.

Friday, August 9, 2013 -- Zwapo -- Zwapo
I like the idea that every page in every book can have a gem on it. It's probably what I love most about writing - that words can be used in a way that's like a child playing in a sandpit, rearranging things, swapping them around.
-- Markus Zusak

"Zwapo" is just one of those non-words that should be a word; indeed, the root word "Zwap" is a play on the word "swap." Certainly, Zwapo would be a great swap meet website or brand for a company that organizes physical swap meets and other trade events.

Also, "Zwap" is listed in the Urban Dictionary as "someone getting hit by an object or person at a high velocity." One sees this word quite a bit in fast-action comic books as superheroes and villains duke it out.

Zwapo is a fast-action term, perhaps describing a screaming fast software program or game -- this term also suggests a techie type word, through and through.

While "Zwapo" does not appear in the or data bases, the term is in commercial use in the Netherlands (See for the sales of pre-fab log cabins (Blokhutten). If you plan to do business in the Netherlands and/or sell pre-fab buildings, you might want to consider another name for your business or product. When you get into statistical analysis, you don't really expect to achieve fame. Or to become an Internet meme. Or be parodied by The Onion -- or be the subject of a cartoon in The New Yorker. I guess I'm kind of an outlier there.

"Zeome" or "Zeo Me" suggests a trendy tech start up, a perfect meme name. This name could also represent a company that manufactures hardware, tools, building supplies, etc.

"Zeome" or "Zeo Me" were not found in the or data bases. However, there are several trademarks on "Zeo" for various products and services -- actually good news because this suggests that it is not an exclusive mark. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 -- Zolii or Zol ii -- Zolii or Zol II

I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?
-- Willie Nelson

According to the Urban Dictionary, "Zol" is South African slang for a "marijuana joint"; if marijuana is ever legalized (which we suspect will be the case--and sooner rather than later), "Zolii" could be developed into a brand for a type of electronic joint. Regular cigarettes can now be found in electronic form, so why not pot, weed, Mary Jane, reefer, etc.?

Such an electronic joint would be a major technology breakthrough in the recreational drug and medical marijuana market because doses could be carefully regulated and could even shut down if its sensors reveal that a user is too impaired or if medical dosage is too high. Thus, the electronic marijuana cigarette market could blow wide open, and potential litigation over overdose issues could be mitigated.

If you are not the marijuana kind of business owner, it is quite possible to name your company after a lizard; if Geico can do it, so can you have a spokesanimal: in this case, a rather cute lizard called a "Zolii." According to Wikipedia, "Philochortus zolii" is a species of lizard in the Lacertidae family. It is found in Egypt and Libya, where its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland and freshwater spring.
